Amazing Vacations With Car Hire In Europe

Car hire in Europe can be a unique and unforgettable way for Americans to become acquainted with the grandeur and history of Europe. If you are not familiar with the term "car hire," it simply means car rental or renting a car. Seeing ancient architecture, picturesque villas, vibrant vineyards, and majestic mountains from the cockpit of a convertible is an exhilarating experience. Here are some tips and advice for maximizing the fun of your car hire in Europe.

When planning your European vacation, consider a car hire in your destination country rather than transportation by train or bus. Make your reservations far in advance, print all travel and rental confirmations, and take them with you. Much of the "paperwork" can now be done online.

Bring your normal driver's license with you, and all your insurance information. Just like the car rental companies in your own country, the ones in Europe need proof that you are an eligible and responsible driver. Find out what other documentation, if any, you will need for a car hire in your European destination country.

Determine in advance what make and model of car you will be getting, and whether you can drive it! If you can't drive a stick shift or manual transmission car, this may limit your vehicle choices. Ask about the price, availability, and types of fuel. You may end up with a Dodge that runs on diesel rather than a Renault that runs on regular.

Always take the supplemental insurance offered by the car hire company. A car accident is stressful enough at home, with the police, the insurance company, and the other driver. Imagine what a nightmare an accident would be when you are 3,000 miles from home and don't even speak the language.

Finally, be prepared for surprises. If you're an American who has never traveled abroad, trying to drive in a country that drives on the opposite side of the road will probably present some difficulty. Likewise, traffic circles may throw you for a loop if they are new to you. And don't attempt the German Autobahn on your first day. Take some time to learn the local German driving customs, especially those concerning merging and passing other cars. And don't forget to load up on the supplemental insurance.

A car hire in Europe will be a challenging but fun vacation you will never forget. Do your research, learn the customs, and plan your route. It will be a drive in the country that will last a lifetime.

The Benefits Of Donating Your Used Vehicles

People who are thinking of donating their cars for a variety of foundations or programs aimed at helping other people now have more reasons to think about donating their used cars. While the act of donating something should be done for proper motivations, the recipients of these car donations have just devised a way to cerate more motivations for future donors.

Car donors can donate their used cars and receive a receipt for tax deduction. Not only that, they can also donate their cars in exchange for a free vacation in any of the places identified by the recipient foundation or group.

Some people who want to donate their used cars hesitate because of the belief that there would be too much paperwork involved with the donation process. However, they should contact their identified recipient because there are foundation and group recipient that offer a hassle-free donation process for future donors.

Organizations that are accepting used car donations usually do all the work like picking up the used car to be donated. The only thing a donor has to do is to fill up the car donation form and take the accompanying benefits like the tax deduction certificate and the free vacation certificate. There are organizations that give out hotel and resort tickets in exchange for a used car donation.

These organizations accept car donations in all forms, including jet skis, recreational vehicles, trailers, boats or motorcycles. They also accept cars that are no longer running or in good condition for as long as the value of the car comes out greater than the value of towing the car from the donor’s place. To emphasize the convenience of donating your used cars, there are organizations that will pick the donated car even if the owner is not at home, provided he leaves behind the necessary papers and the keys.

The used cars that are donated to these organizations will be used depending on the condition of the car. One thing is however sure; the donor gets a tax deduction equal to the value of the car with a maximum of $500 or in cases when the car is resold, he gets a tax deduction equal to the amount of the resell price of the car.

There is an even easier method of donating one’s used car and this is through the internet. You just need to fill out the forms online and then the deal is closed.

The proceeds of car donations will go to different foundations or organizations that provide for the needs of children and other sectors. There are groups that take special care of distressed children. In most organizations, a hundred percent of the used car proceeds are used to fund their programs on unemployed youth, recovering youth or youth in hazardous situations. Other organizations used the proceeds to fund projects on genetic and clinical research and outreach programs. Some use the funds to provide supplies and other resources for doctors and their families.

So if you have one or more vehicle that have remained unused in your garage for a long time and which you have no use for , then better donate them to your favorite foundation or group and get more benefits in exchange.

Charities Donations Solve Problems

"I believe that if you show people the problems and you show them the solutions they will be moved to act. "
Bill Gates

I'm sure that you will agree with this quotation from Bill Gates if you think about it a little. Charities have for a long time been using the tv and other media to tell us all about the problems that people face in the world today. They also give us indications of how we can improve the lives of people in need and of course they give us the means by which we can play a part in the aid process. Charities donations isn't always about money. You can give all kinds of things and make a difference. Warm clothes, tinned food, cars or spectacles are just a few of the things that cane be done. Of course you can also give your time if you have any. Why not take a look at all the things that you don't use any more but are too good to throw away. You could end up making a significant donation without it costing you any money.

I think that most of us are happy to make charity donations after a disaster of some kind but how many of us make regular donations? If you don't give regularly you may not be aware of the tax benefits of giving to charity. Depending on where you live you may be able to get considerable tax breaks for your donations. In some parts you can donate a car and offset it against your tax bill. In the UK charities can reclaim the tax you have already paid on your charity donation. With basic rate tax in the UK running at 22% this represents a significant boost for the charity. All you have to do is fill in a form to way that you are a tax payer.

I don't have a favourite charity and if you are anything like me then you probably don't have one either. If this is the case then it's a good idea to budget your donations for the year by deciding how much you are going to donate in advance. When you have done this you can then decide whom you are going to help. There are international charities like the Oxfam, Red Cross, Cafod, etc. that are known worldwide and are often seen to arrive at disaster scenes before anyone else. After a major disaster charities are set up to help rebuild communities and peoples lives. Recent examples have been events such as the Tsunami and Hurricane Katrina. If you search the Internet you will find lots of details about those. By supporting charities donations for these one off disasters it means that you can get help to the people who have lost everything to allow them to start their lives again.

Maybe it's better to help closer to home with charity donations. It can be very satisfying and enjoyable to be involved with local fund raising for schools and churches etc. When my family was young I used to help raise money for our local school. I was donating my time, a little money and goods and we had a good time and made new friends by doing it. The children loved celebrating harvest festival by donating fresh vegetables and fruit and when the festival was all over the food would be given to a local charity for the homeless.

That was all a long time ago now and I leave the school fund raising to the younger parents. I still help people though but I do it differently. I have recently supported Cancer research because it is affecting my family. It seems to affect everyone's family doesn't it? I also like to support children's charities both local and international. Knowing that my charities donations are helping to make a better future gives me a lot of satisfaction.

Should You Give Your Car Away?

You can give your car to charity and deduct the gross proceeds from the sale if the proceeds are for more than $500.
If the claimed value of the donated motor vehicle, boat or plane exceeds $500 and the item is sold by the charitable organization, the taxpayer's claimed value is limited to the gross proceeds from the sale.

The charitable organization must notify the donor within 30 days of the sale of the amount of the gross proceeds. However, if the charity adds improvements to the vehicle, the charity must notify the donor within 30 days of the contribution. If the charity betters the vehicle then the donor may deduct the vehicle’s market value.

Actually, it is much better if the Taxpayer can deduct the vehicle's market value, because there normally is quite a gap between perceived market value and actual proceeds, and this difference can literally be thousands of dollars.

One car donation center states that it has processed over 500,000 car donations since 1992, which adds up to about 30,000 cars a year.

Did you know that you can also donate boats and RV's?
So if aunt Dora dies, and leaves her jalopy in the driveway then maybe this is an attractive way to get rid of the car especially since it does not start anyway.

But wait! It is not that easy.
Where is the Title to the car? Not in the glove compartment? You may have a problem.
You may also have a problem if the title is joint, say Aunt Dora and Uncle Nick.
If Aunt Dora died and UncleNick is still alive there will be all kinds of problems.

How about vehicle emission controls, was the car equipped with them, were they disabled?

When you make a charity car donation:
You get free vehicle pick-up whether your car to donate is running or not. In some cases the company will actually put a new battery in the car to get it running again.
You avoid confusing Department of Motor Vehicles paperwork or Smog hassles.

How it works:
Call a reliable Vehicle Donation company.
They'll take your information over the telephone, they'll handle all the DMV documents, they'll pick up your vehicle , arrange an auction sale and distribute the proceeds to the charity.

If your donated vehicle/vessel sells for under $500 the receipt you receive at the time the vehicle is picked up is all you need for filing your taxes.

The actual net proceeds of a donated car seem to range around the $400 figure
In all cases, a charity car donation is sold to the highest bidder by a well-established charity vehicle auction.
You must have a certificate of title.

Some companies will also guarantee that if your donated car gets a ticket after your donation date, they'll take care of the ticket for you and they zealously will fight it so you don't have to worry about it.

The reason cars are sold by public auction is that people simply will pay more at an auction for your car than they will pay at a dealer.

Also, if the car is running at the time of the auction people will pay more so it is advisable to get it to running condition when reselling it.

Taxes and Donating a Car

Wikipedia defines car donation or donate-your-car as thus - car donation refers to the practice of giving away no-longer-wanted automobiles to charity organizations.

In the United States, charitable donations provide a tax benefit; as such, this type of giving has become very popular. For values less than $5000, the value of the tax deduction comes from the donor's own estimate of the car's value, even if the charity receives much less money from actually selling the car (usually at auction).

Car donation category has been infested with masters of con craft over the time. Scams occur in this business category without even attracting any headlines. Here are some facts - car donation programs are supposed to be run by not-for-profit organizations. Reality - these are mostly run by for-profit firms. Charity organizations are supposed to benefit most from used car donations. Reality - majority of the sales proceeds are pocketed by used car dealers or fundraisers, and not the charity organization.

Charity organizations don't come under any audit for a minimum period of 18 months. This helps scamsters spread their wings easily. Even the end of 18 months duration is not a guarantee of an audit.

New laws

In order to curb this widely followed malpractice, IRS has enacted new set of laws. Following are some salient features of these laws -

1. Organization qualification - ensure that the charity organization is qualified to receive the car donation. You will not be eligible for tax deductions if the car is donated to a non-qualified organization. You may check the list of such organizations on 'Publication 78' available online or with public libraries.

2. Fair market value deductions - you are eligible for the tax benefits on fair market value of the vehicle, and not the value arrived with the help of the guide. Fair market value can be arrived at with the help of many used-car guides available in the market. Publications 526 and 561 respectively "Charitable Deductions" and "Determining the Value of Donated Property" can be of great help.

3. Itemize your deductions - In order to take full advantage of tax deductions, you need to itemize your deductions on your tax returns. This will depend on the difference between your itemized and standard deductions.

4. Deduction documentation - you must meticulously maintain the documentation required for the purpose. There are many documents including forms, required to avail the benefits. You may refer to Publication 526 for details about the forms and receipts needed to avail the deductions.

New laws on car donation clearly specify the following - when a taxpayer donates a vehicle for which the claimed value is $500 or more, the precise deduction that can be claimed will depend on how the charity plans to use the vehicle. If the auto is sold by the nonprofit organization, then the taxpayer will be able to deduct only the amount of gross proceeds the organization got from the sale. And the donor will have to depend on the charity to let him know the donation amount by the individual tax-filing deadline. In other words, the freedom has been restricted. It is now the amount that the vehicle realizes from the sale (by the charity organization), that will be treated to be deductible, and NOT the one claimed by the car donor.

It is far better to be in touch with your finance portfolio advisor before deciding on car donation.
